A soccer game plan for HIV/AIDS prevention
- October 16th, 2007
I came across an interesting video clip on the Internet about how the
Uganda soccer team uses soccer terminology and applies it to HIV/AIDS prevention and the education of the youth.
This one is for all the soccer fans out there:
Game plan
This is a well thought thorough process taking many experts and a lot of time and practice to get to the winning solution – preparation is crucial to success.
HIV/AIDS can be prevented and beaten if you use your head and not your heart – know your opponent, don’t take risks and ALWAYS use a condom.
Prepare for your social activities – ALWAYS ensure that you stock up on condoms before going out.
Scoring is not everything – it is sometimes better to pass the ball to a team member who might be better positioned and whose chance is greater for scoring. If you are not in a steady relationship it is better to pass or abstain completely – it may just save your life.
There is a partner for life for every individual – you do not have to prove anything to anybody or demonstrate that you are part of a group, gang or click by doing what the others do. Have the courage to set the example.
Soccer is a team sport – you are not in the game on your own. Talk to others about HIV/AIDS – knowledge is power. Being in a relationship means two people are involved. Talk to one another about the way forward if you feel that this relationship is going to become more serious and maybe permanent.
The ground rule to a successful relationship is effective and open communication – Trust your partner enough to share HIV/AIDS concerns.
Good coaching is essential for a winning team. If you are positive - go for good counseling on HIV/AIDS. You do not have the necessary information to make the right decisions on your own. There are experienced and well qualified individuals who are looking forward to improve your quality of life in a confidential manner. Find out who they are and pay them a visit.·
Attack the opponent together as a team. - HIV/AIDS is our opponent and power comes in numbers. Attack it together and let us kick it out of Africa! Share knowledge on HIV/AIDS with your partner, your children, neighbours and as many other people as possible.
Do NOT be put off by the negative “know-it-all” individuals. - Persistence will pay off and save your life and our country’s future. We depend on you. Make a difference!
